Peppino @ Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa

The Italian Fine Dining..

Peppino is an Italian fine dining restaurant, locating in the luxury hotel of Kota Kinabalu - the Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa.

Peppino has a spacious dining area with romantic dim lighting and high class ambiance, alongside the red wines displayed on the wine racks magnificently. It was once awarded as Sabah's best restaurant in hotel.

Menu comprises mainly of the common Italian cuisine like meats, pastas, and pizzas. Those consist of wine/nuts are thoughtfully well-labeled, probably to alert customers with allergy. Prices are reasonable as everything is within RM100, except for the high grade meat.

Once seated, we were offered with either the wine or the plain (or) sparkling water. Definitely not a regular wine drinker, so we opted for the sparkling one (Sam's favourite =P).

Orders were taken and in a short moment, appetiser was served.
Rocky hard but tasted good pastries were served,...
...together with the fresh octopus with slight sweet chili sauce.

To start with the meal, you can have their starters such as the scallop, maguro, buffalo, and beef tenderloin. Otherwise, salads are available for the healthy green eaters.

Peppino has premium meat, thereof some contain red wine. Risotto is limited as there is only one choice for that, whereas they have special kinds of pastas. For instance, the potato gnocchi could be found here. Pizzas are more attracting as there are more varieties offered.

Italian desserts like tiramisu, panna cotta, and vanilla dome are available in Peppino. The malted chocolate milk and banana mousse with cherry sauce is chef recommended, yet we had no chance to try it, perhaps for the next visit.
Rack of lambs with herbs, fennel, and potato puree.
The lambs are very tender and juicy, definitely a high premium meat.
Mashed potato is in nice buttery texture.
Black ink spaghetti with cuttlefish ragout, tomato sauce & salted ricotta.

We were deceived by its 'black ink' wordings.
Expected to be a squid ink pasta, instead it was a black-inked pasta.

Nonetheless, the sauce is very sour and tomato-ish.
Great for the tomato lovers, but those who dislike
sourish food better not to go for this.
Seafood pizza with black mussel, local clams, rock lobster, prawns
and wakame seaweed with dried chili flakes, garlic & Parmesan cream.

Well-balanced ingredients, juicy seafood pizza, hard-to-cut but nice pizza dough.
I found that this pizza dough has the similar texture with the one in
Troika's Strato, probably that is how an Italian pizza works out to be? =D

Generally, Peppino serves high quality food which are delicately prepared. Great environment and good service it has, made us feel like treated as the Queens hehe..
Me with my ugly pudding head.. =O
