October @ Peak Vista

The Best Coffee in Town..

Whilst you could find coffee shops everywhere in KL, how about in the city of Sabah - Kota Kinabalu? Not much of choices we have in KK, but at least there is an ideal one.

October Coffee House in Peak Vista, Tanjung Lipat, has the finest coffee in the Jesselton town. It is operated by a Korean family, whose owner is an experienced, professional coffee roaster.

"October" represents the season of autumn, thereof great dedication is shown in designing the autumn-themed coffee shop by utilising all the brownish furnitures and fittings.
October's signature mugs decoration

Menu is cheerfully displayed on the chalkboard. There are merely drinks and snacks obtainable in the October Coffee House.
Wifi password is changed over time. ;O

Besides than those snacks written on the menu board, there are pastries such as cake, garlic bread, and October bun.
Cake @ RM6.50/pc
Garlic bread @ RM4.80/6pcs
October bun @ RM3.80/pc

From my perspective, a decent cup of coffee relies on three basic aspects
1. Strong fragrance is where the aroma of a fresh-ground coffee could be
     easily smelled.
2. Smooth body texture requires good quality of coffee beans with appropriate
processing methods. For the whites, of course the texture of steamed milk
     is taken into consideration.
3. Great coffee flavour highly depends on the coffee beans' growing regions, its
roasting method, as well as the brewing methods.

October's coffee comprises these distinctive attributes that make it the best coffee shop in KK (my personal opinion).
House blend coffee beans are available for sale in packets.
Danny's coffee beans, probably derived from the owner's name - Daniel. =D

Coffee is definitely my prioritised selection in every visit to the October Coffee House. Otherwise, there are non-caffeine beverages such as fresh fruit juice and herb tea, or everyone's favourite green tea latte. =P

Caffeine drinks..
Americano
Cappuccino
Latte
Mocha
Non-caffeine drinks..
Green tea latte

Camomile tea
Lemon mint juice

Bagel and scone are available throughout the operating hours.
Bagel with jam @ RM4.80/pc
Scone with cranberry jam @ RM5.80/2pcs

Other snacks are available only up to 6pm.
Bruschetta @ RM9.80
Grilled bread topped with succulent, spiced minced meat,
tomato, herb, garlic, onion, and perfectly covered by the mozzarella cheese.
A thumb-up for October's bruschettas!
French toast @ RM7.80
You won't get greasy of October's toast as it is a healthier &
not-so-sweet version, topped with fresh fruits and grains.
A refreshing change of thought towards french toast after trying this.

Honey bread @ RM7.80, could be an alternative for the french toast,
just that it is topped with mixed nuts and cranberries.

Korean street toast @ RM7.80
It is an omelette-stuffed toast filled with carrots, cabbages, and hams.
Sauce is spreaded between the bread and the omelette, thus more juicy.

To be frank, it is hard to find a standard cup of good coffee in the town of KK. Therefore, October Coffee House will always be my first pick to go for a decent coffee. Not only the coffee is up to the standard I expect, the snacks are tasty too.

Good Friends @ Subang SS15

A Good Place for the Good Buddies

A weekend catch up session with our besties is an amazing thing. Thereof, a great venue with cordial ambiance would be critical to complement the entire outing session. Good Friends restaurant & cafe, previously was operating in Ara Damansara, is now relocated to Subang SS15 (middle part, same row as the Starbucks Coffee).

Good Friends cafe is a great place where we could hangout with a bunch of good buddies. What makes us feel comfy to dine here is its homey, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere.
Very spacious, comfy environment..
Thoughtful facilities set up for the kids ;D

Good Friends serves "East meets West" food where different kinds of Asian & Western food could be found here. Besides than the ordinary brunch menu, there are sandwiches, waffles, pastas, rice, meat stuff, etc.
Nevertheless, there is afternoon tea set for 2 (RM39) available from 2pm-6pm:
scones, brownies, fruit tarts, smoked salmon sandwiches,
garden salad, and coffee/tea.

Coffee beans with smooth fragrance are used in brewing the coffees, nonetheless, they are available for sale too.

The extraordinary part of their coffee selections is that they offer different brewing & serving methods that could best satisfy our coffee preferences respectively. There are hand drip, syphon, as well as french press methods of brewing coffees. Additionally, the ice coffee without ice for girls who would always do that for their beverages. xD

Cakes and scones are displayed for sale, and they sell kuih batik too.

What else astonished me is that they produce their house branded products for sale. For instance, the soy sauce, Sarawak white peppercorn, and homemade jam.

Good coffee like normal cafes do.
Cappuccino (RM9)
Latte (RM9)
and... I like their ginger honey tea! ;D

Trio mushroom soup (RM8) is good enough that it is a creamy bodied real mushroom soup.
Else, you could go for the pumpkin soup or seafood soup.
Very rich, flavourful seafood soup.

Baked eggs (RM16) is baked with mixed vegetables and sausages, seasoned with their homemade tomato sauce, and topped with great amount of cheese. It is a cheese baked egg concept instead of the cheese baked rice.

What else to order for an egg lover? I'm not pizza is another awesome plate that combines omelette with the pizza concept. It is an omelette fried with salmon (optional), cauliflowers, cheese & capsicums, zero carbs as no flour was added! ;D

Another popular plate of Good Friends is the waffle. Good Friends does not serve the ordinary kind of waffle with ice cream, they have the beef bacon & egg waffle, chocolate banana waffle, fruits waffle, and the jackfruits waffle instead.
Here's the breakkie waffle (RM14) - fluffy waffle with fruits
(strawberries, passion fruits, peaches) topped with homemade jam & nuts.

The french toast (RM15) here is pretty good. Thick cut brioche is coated with eggs, served along with the caramelised bananas, berries, raisins, and toasted almonds. Sweetness overloads in this toast but it is awesome.

Varieties of pastas are prepared by Good Friends to fix everyone's preferences. There are white and red sauced pastas served with blue mussels, chickens, beefs, or prawns. Furthermore, it is thoughtful that they have not forgotten to specifically design some vegetarian meals (V) for the vegetarians.
The farmer's pasta (RM14) - stir fried penne with different colours of veggies.

There are other choices for the Asians such as the grilled chicken and salmon, Chinese wine chicken mee sua, and basil prawn fried rice. Otherwise, u could go for the Japanese fusion kind of miso grilled chicken (RM16) with a mix of fried soba and miso honey sauced grilled chicken.

For the "carnivores", mixed grill would be your best pick! =P
Generous amount of flavoursome grilled salmon & chicken

Last but not least, they do provide customised catering service for special occasions.

RT Cafe @ Subang SS15

Bread + Coffee = Delicious ! =P

Since everyone is having a coffee fever nowadays, the famous RT Pastry House came out with a great idea to further satisfy their customers' needs. Months ago, they have taken over the next door to commence their coffee business.

RT Cafe is now associated with its pastry house next to the Public Bank in Subang SS15.

RT Cafe has nature-themed design with the wooden bricks wall, furniture from tree logs, and the pot culture.

It could be seen that this is an expansion of the RT business which is focusing on serving nice coffee. It is a simple yet innovative business concept to merge with its former pastry house.
Coffee/tea, soft drinks, ice blended, etc...

SereniTEA organic teas are available for the tea lovers.

The only food selling in the counter are the readymade cakes, salads and sandwiches.

Nonetheless, you could grab any food from the nextdoor pastry house to have it here (pay there and eat here =P).
Pretty looking caramel mousse from the RT Pastry House.

Apart from the pastries, RT Cafe has recently introduced the classic spaghetti in their cafe.

Coffees are mild with milkier taste.
Cappuccino for the foam lovers...

Latte for the milk lovers...

AND

Mocha for the chocolate lovers...

The special one - Nutella cappuccino:
Nutella is coated around the glass & the proper way of drinking it is..
Use the spoon to get some nutella into ur mouth,
only you sip the cappuccino.

Of course, not forgetting to take away my all time favourite green tea cake bread from the RT Pastry House
RT green tea cake bread & polo bun! Yumms..!
