Hello, BANGKOK!
Everyone loves travelling, so do I. As I was planning to attend my pretty cousin's wedding in Thailand, I planned for a short trip visiting Bangkok for my very first time. Hereby, I would briefly introduce places I have been to. For further details, pls stay in tune with my upcoming blogs hehe.. ;D
Accommodation
I lived in two different hotels during my trip to Bangkok. First half was in Bangkok City Hotel along Phetchaburi Road. It is a hotel with very cheap fare and is nearby to the BTS line's Ratchathewi station. Staying here is pretty convenient, but it was quite disappointing when I found out the aircon was not cold enough, the mattress was a bit hard & we felt itchy for the first night sleeping on the bed sheet (somehow, it's ok after changing it for the second day).
For the next half trip, I chose to stay in Ibis Siam Hotel. It is merged with Mercure Hotel where Mercure is built at upper levels of Ibis & it is located just beside of the National Stadium station. It is located strategically in the central of Siam, and so, it is very convenient for us walking to all the malls. Basically, this hotel is nice, but it is slightly expensive & is not as spacious as the previous hotel.
Transportation
As far as u r living near to any BTS stations, it will be very convenient for u to travel around. ;)
Otherwise, u could just call for any taxi. But be cautious, it is better to hire a taxi with METRE, as it will always end up with super cheap taxi fare. =)
Food
Besides that, Bangkok is famous for its mango sticky rice which u can get in most of the restaurants. And, I went for the shop in Siam Square named Mango Tango, which specifically sells mango desserts. Yummy!
Being a little bit fun to try some bizarre restaurant, I went to the themed restaurant - Cabbages & Condoms. It is just located in between of Asok & Nana stations. It is a restaurant that built with the theme of "condoms"! =O
For cake lovers, u could try the cakes in Coffee Beans by dao, which could be found in some of the malls (I tried it in Central World =D). Their cakes are yummy, but they are a bit pricy. P/S: it is totally unrelated to the coffee beans we used to go!
Recommendations: Just try any Thailand local food such as Tomyum, green curry, fried fish with sour mango sauce, omelette oyster, mango sticky rice, coconut, etc.
Shopping Malls
Girls love shopping, and Bangkok is definitely a shopping heaven for GIRLS! xD
1. Platinum Fashion Mall is a MUST for shopaholics. It is a mall which categorises all the different sections into different levels. The most attracting part is: All the goods are to be sold on WHOLESALE PRICE as long as u buy up to 2 or 3 items.
2. Siam Paragon is a high-end mall with all the LV, Gucci, Burberry, etc inside. For travellers with budget, you could just walk in and have a look on it only. ><
3. Siam Center is just located opposite to Siam paragon, and it is more suitable for those medium-earning consumers.
4. Chatuchak weekend market is another place to go for wholesale priced items. It is recommended to go on Sunday as in other days, not all stalls are opened. However, it is SUPER hot & I swear that I would not go for the second time anymore (Platinum mall is more than enough)! =)
5. Central World is just similar with any normal malls we used to always go, with all the common franchise shops, normal branded shops, and normally seen restaurants.
6. MBK
7. Terminal 21 is a mall which is built with different themes in different levels. For example, San Francisco theme, Tokyo theme, London theme, etc.
8. Union mall is slightly similar to the Platinum mall, but it is smaller & has lesser choices.
9. Big C Supermarket is their famous large scaled supermarket, just similar to our Giant. Foreigners like us could come here to buy their tomyum flavoured maggi - Mama, as it is heavenly nice & could not be bought in Malaysia. =(
10. Patpong night market is mostly selling all those fake branded goods, which is cheap & looking real. However, try to discount to the least price u desire to, else the sellers will be offering a VERY HIGH price! D:
Nightlife
For those who love to drink beers while enjoying the live band music & performance, Tawandang in Rama III is definitely a place worth to go for. (for more details, click here..)
If u would love to watch the nice scenery of the whole Bangkok city, with some alcoholic drinks, the Vertigo and Moon Sky Bar in Banyan Tree would be your preferable choice. (for more details, click here..)
Others
Are u a person who would go CRAZY for any stars??? If yes, just visit the Madame Tussauds in Siam Discovery to have some photoshooting sessions with them! =D
In conclusion, Bangkok is a nice place to shop & eat! Most importantly, their stuff are pretty cheap and you would want to pay for the next visit again..
