The Carpenter's Daughter @ Taipan, USJ

Home-styled Bakery & Cafe

Randomly found out this little cute cafe in USJ Taipan after driving around there to search for a nice place for coffee. It is less noticeable and you would think that it is just a pastry shop selling breads, indeed it served as a cafe as well.

The Carpenter's Daughter Artisan Bakery & Cafe has comfy environment which makes us feel homey. As u step into the cafe, you could see the pastry shop selling varieties of their homemade breads.

The Carpenter's Daughter has good bread in the sense that they bake their bread using healthier ingredients. Moreover, they do not stingy in the ingredients used in producing the bread as u can know through the heavier weight of their pastries. As a consequence, they might be selling off at slight expensive price, but they definitely worth the price.
You need to take note of their white board
to know which pastries are available everyday.

Too bad that their signature bread, ciabatta has been sold out due to the overwhelming demand. Therefore, I bought home the other bread highly recommended by the cafe owner. The cafe owner is kinda friendly in introducing every single bread and it can be seen that she put a lot of passion in operating the cafe. ;)
Pumpkin loaf baked healthily with all the natural ingredients.
Italian square with full herbs, the herb taste is awesomely nice!
I hardly fall for any bread, but this definitely caught my heart hehe..
(probably the bread tastes too good with the herbs) ;D
Focaccia, similarly with herbs inside. Yumm!

Little area of cafe with cute red polka dots table cloth..
Bread is freshly made behind.

There are homemade cakes displayed at the counter.

Menu comprises of lunch such as pasta and sandwiches too. I would take a chance to try it on my next visit.

The Carpenter's Daughter offers a variety of good deal to dine in the cafe. For example, anyone orders a cake can be given a free black coffee. There is afternoon tea set as well, that many of the customers ordered, probably I would try it next time when I am not that full hehe..

For a lighter tea session after a full lunch, I got to try the cakes and coffee only.
Red velvet cake with super light taste,
maybe due to the healthier ingredients used. ;)
Brownies from the hot oven.
Hot cappuccino was lack of the fragrance.
Hot macchiato, similarly not as fragrant as I expected.

It was glad that I found this home-styled cafe here as it is absolutely a nice cafe for us to enjoy a relaxing high tea session. Coffees and cakes are not too special for me, but the breads are definitely my favourite. Healthier concept of producing the food probably would be the best point for me to pay a visit to this bakery & cafe again.

Jiro Shabu @ Taipan, USJ

Ala-carte shabu-shabu..

Groupon definitely offers me opportunities to explore more restaurants as this time, I bought a cash voucher of RM30 for RM15 to dine in this shabu-shabu restaurant - Jiro ShabuJiro Shabu is located at the busy area of Taipan, USJ.

The environment is very comfy, neat, and clean. There is revolving belt in the middle, just like those in the Japanese restaurants.

Jiro Shabu used to be operating as a buffet shabu-shabu restaurant, until it found that the business did not work well with the buffet concept.
No more buffet, they display snacks on the revolving belt instead.
Spot the Rocky & Mister Potato? xD
Basically, there are five types of soup base to be chosen from: the Tom Yum Goong, miso soup, kimchi soup, 'Ma La' hot pot, and pork bone soup.

It is a convenient way of ordering - you just have to tick on the order form.

The menu is mainly comprising of varieties of pork, beef, lamb, and seafood shabu sets, as well as other ala-carte items. It is thoughtful that there is mushroom shabu set for the vegetarians.
The pork shabu set @ RM19.90
All the sets are basically come with similar stuff - vegetables, bean curd, fish ball, tomato, corn, etc, with a plate of noodle. Common steamboat items they are, just that the noodle could be selected from a wider range of selections, which includes the steamboat noodles, udon noodles, wanton noodles, instant ramen, pan mee, bamboo noodles, and rice vermicelli.

I love to dip the food into their yummy spicy & sour sauce!

Our add-on items:
Australia Premium Striploin @ RM18.90
Fish balls @ RM5.90
Romaine lettuce @ RM3.90

For seafood lovers, there are a lot of choices such as crystal king prawn, fish, king squid, cuttlefish, abalone, mussel, and scallop.

After the shabu meal, they served us the aftermeal drinks - icy lime juice. This is so warm-hearted in the sense that we got to get some chilling, refreshing icy drinks right after the hot shabu-shabu meal. ;D

Jiro Shabu actually offers a lot of food items in the menu. Maybe not having all the food displayed, it made us feel like there is not much food to be ordered. The food are fresh, but the meat was like lacking of the original sweet taste.

Anyways, Jiro Shabu is still a good choice if u love to shabu-shabu in a quieter and comfortable environment. Wishing u all a happy day to end 2013 soon! =P
I am not a vegetarian.. xP

Ten28ight Boutique Cafe @ Desa Sri Hartamas

A relaxing high tea session..

Thankful to Groupon that brought us to try the afternoon tea set at this boutique cafe locating in Crystal Villa 2, Desa Sri Hartamas at only RM32 for two.
A rather outstanding cafe with my favourite RED wall painting! hehe..

Ten28ight Boutique Cafe has simple yet cosy indoor garden-inspired decoration, felt like stepping into a vintage English cafe with all the green lawn that makes people feel comfortable with.

Despite it looks like a nice afternoon tea garden-themed cafe, unexpectedly, it offers other local dishes at reasonably cheap price.
Thought of adding on some sandwiches,
if the tea set was not enough.. xD

Coffee or tea or flower tea pot is included in the afternoon tea set. And yeah, I sticked to my old preference, my all-time-favourite hot cappuccino hehe..

The service was a bit slow as we have been waiting for some time after seated. Well, glad that it worth the time as every single pieces of savoury pastries & desserts turn out to be nice. We can see that they had put some effort in providing a quality tea set for us, instead of serving it just for the profit-earning motive.
Serving on a two-tier old-fashioned, classy English tea stand.

Every single pieces shows how they worked hard in producing the quality savoury pastries. They are not too fat, not too sweet, and in the best texture (most importantly, the amount is just right for two of us whee..).
Quiche is awesomely nice with its custard, cheese, meat fillings,
and it is not too greasy.
The curry puff is super crispy and i love puff with juicy fillings.
Similarly, I love the crispy samosa with appropriate amount of spiciness.
Custard tart topped with kiwi, peach, and strawberry.
The cheese tart is light and frankly, not our favourite. =X
The parfait is nice as it is not too sweet, puffy,
and with generous amount of berries in the middle.
The macarons are not too sweet, but they have
slight different texture with what we had before, more sticky.

Lastly, we can choose one cake from the counter, depends on the availability. Lack of choices, we selected our favourite chocolate moist cake, it is okay only but not too bad at all.

After all, it was definitely a worthy tea set that we had enjoyed. I like the crispy crust of the pastries and the desserts which were not overly sweet, that we won't feel too fatty in the end.

twenty.one @ BSC

My Birthday Dinner.. ;D

After considering a few selections for my birthday dinner venue, I have decided to try twenty.one, which is located in the Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC). There are four types of seats (dining table, table+terrace, bar, lounge) to be chosen upon reservation & I chose the table+terrace's, with a nice KL city view.

Twenty.one is a bar & restaurant, with nice ambiance and slight dim light. The dining area looks high class and romantic, which is definitely a good place for dating.

The food selection in the menu is not too broad, in contrast, there is broader range of beverages (especially for the alcoholic drinks).

Before the mains were served, they served some bread in small cubic size as the starter, to temporarily fill up our hungry stomach.

For the snacks...
Duck spring rolls - flour tortilla filled with duck meat,
cucumbers, carrots, and spring onions (with chili hoi sin sauce).
It would be great if there is more duck meat. ;D
Pandan chicken skewers - with thai chili sauce.
Nice to dip with the sour thai chili sauce!

For the mains..
Roast chicken breast - stuffed with
mushrooms, garlic mash, bak choy & spanish salsa.
Chicken burger - with pickles, cheese, homemade relish & shoe string fries.
This is such a huge portion for a girl's appetite, but it was a bit dry.
Creamy fettuccini - with smoked salmon & spinach.
Fish & chips - served with fries & homemade tartar sauce.
Fish burger - served with wedges & homemade tartar sauce.
Thai green risotto - with spicy chicken & tempura spring onions.
Quite a special dish of risotto, with some thai green chili taste.
Mushroom risotto for mine, with tempura oyster mushrooms & parmesan wafer.
Oops, sorry that I was too hungry that I forgot to snap a picture of it =X
Btw, the tempura oyster mushrooms are delicious & the parmesan wafer
tastes like some cheese stick, yummy but a bit salty.

For the dessert..
Passionfruit creme brulee - with dark chocolate.
The creme brulee is delicious with its right amount of burnt caramel topcoat &
the dark chocolate is so nice that we can tell that it is of better chocolate quality.

For the beverages..
Hot chocolate
Mojito
Orange juice
Sex on the beach
Virgin ace

AND lastly, what is so nice about twenty.one?

Every Wednesday & Thursday are ladies nights from 9pm till late, where we can have their selected cocktails for free hehe..
Hot pommegranite - a mix of tequila, triple sec,
pommegranate syrup & lime cordial.
It tastes nice with suitable amount of sweetness.
Luscious lavender - a mix of gin, lavender syrup & fresh lemon juice.
This is my favourite, strong enough yet not too sweet.
Lycheetini - a mix of vodka & fresh blended lychee.
Tastes like a lychee drinks with slight vodka.
Sexy apple - a mix of vodka, green apple, peach syrup & pineapple juice.
Just like a normal green apple juice, with a little bit of vodka taste.

Twenty.one's food is not bad at all & are in generous portion. Besides that, they have big varieties of drinks to choose from & nice cocktails during ladies night (which can be ordered unlimitedly over the night). x) It is a nice chilling place and I would definitely consider to come again next time, probably for a nice drinks and dessert.
